Google announced that it should soon be possible to use the camera of smartphones to measure health data.
Smartphone camera as a measuring device
From March onwards, users with Google Fit will measure their heart and breathing rates using a smartphone camera. This function should initially be available for Pixel phones, but an expansion to other Android devices is already being planned.
The function is used when the user brings their head and upper body into the field of view of the front camera and breathes normally. The heart rate is measured by placing a finger on the back of the camera. Special algorithms should deliver reliable results. The results of the measurement can then be saved in the app and the health data monitored in this way.
