Like many other games, The Witcher 3 will be entitled to an update to improve its performance on new generation consoles, although nothing is yet known about the planned improvements.
Several months ago, CD Projekt Red announced to fans of The Witcher that the third opus would be entitled to a next-gen update when the consoles Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 would come out. Since then, water has flowed under the bridges and the title’s release Cyberpunk 2077 kept the studio busy since the PS4 and Xbox One versions were riddled with bugs and had to be corrected as soon as possible. It is for this reason that the studio has deployed son patch 1.2 very recently. In addition to this, CD Projekt had to face a cyberattack causing the source codes of the games to be sold Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3 and Gwent on the Web. Now that all of these things seem to be settled, CD Projekt is back on the next-gen update of The Witcher 3 by specifying that it would arrive by the second half of the year. However, the studio has yet to reveal what to expect from this update although we can already imagine some things.

First of all, we can expect a boosted image quality in 4K and a frame rate of 60 fps as is the case for other games that have been entitled to an update next- gen. CD Projekt also mentioned wanting to shorten load times and integrate ray tracing. The update will be free for anyone who already owns the game on Xbox One, PS4, or PC. The next-gen version will be available for purchase separately, in a version including both DLCs, Blood and Wine and Heart of Stone, but we do not yet know at what price. At the same time, CD Projekt is also working on the update for the next-gen consoles of Cyberpunk 2077.
