Microsoft is now officially pulling the plug for Cortana on smartphones and is taking the app for iOS and Android from the stores.
Microsoft is banning Cortana from smartphones
The voice assistant Cortana from Microsoft could never really prevail in comparison with Alexa or the Google Assistant. Microsoft has also recognized this and now, as announced last year, the end of Cortana on smartphones enforced. Both the app on iOS and Android itself and third-party services are no longer supported.
To make this step a little easier for Cortana users, all reminders, tasks and lists are transferred to the Microsoft To Do app, which can be downloaded free of charge on both systems. However, if you don’t want to part with Cortana, you can continue to use it under Windows. So Cortana is not completely dead, just no longer mobile.
However, there is still an exception on mobile devices. The Microsoft voice assistant can also be found in the Microsoft 365 apps.
