Aware that the shift to electric can no longer be avoided, GMC unveils its new Hummer range. Designed for off-roading, these vehicles display record and ambitious performance. In particular, it can move diagonally, like a crab.
It is far the time when the SUV rhymed with monstrosity for the environment. As manufacturers around the world begin their shift to electric, like Volkswagen which will ultimately not be called Voltswagen, GMC presents its first foray into the sector. In the tradition of Hummer classics, the manufacturer relies on power and all-terrain to attract new consumers. Named Hummer EV SUV, the model will be declined in two versions, a classic and a pickup. It will combine the performance of GMC with that of the electric, with power being the key word. The vehicle can go from 0 to 100 in less than 3 seconds and has a range of 300 miles, or about 432 km.
Both Hummer will be among the first vehicles to benefit from the new GM modular electric battery platform, vice. According to the company, it will provide a power of 50 to 200 kWh. In its Truck version, the vehicle will use 800-volt battery packs and a rapid charge capacity of up to 350 kW, or around 160 km of range in just 10 minutes of charging.
An all-terrain of the most efficient
It is the hallmark of Hummer. Its vehicles are suitable for both the road and more chaotic paths. In this sense, the brand has developed new features to make life easier for motorists. If its imposing design does not make it a suitable vehicle for the city, especially in narrow streets, the brand relies on its Crabwalk (crab walk in French) to get out of all situations. The setting, which the firm presents as revolutionary, will be able to use all four-wheel drive diagonally. Concretely, the vehicle will be able to move at an angle, at reduced speed. An easier way to park or simply avoid an obstacle in the narrowest streets.
Finally, Hummer announces an extraction mode that can use the air suspension system to lift the entire vehicle 15 centimeters off the ground. This will allow the Hummer to overcome certain obstacles. Inside, the vehicle incorporates a 13.4 inch touch screen and one 12.3 inch digital instrument panel.
The two vehicles, already available for booking on the site, will be available in spring 2024. They will be marketed from 80,000 dollars in the United States. The first edition of Hummer EV has been a victim of its own success. While it is due out next fall, reservations are already full. In France, we will probably have to wait a little longer. On the historical dealer, Hummer.Fr, it is not yet possible to order the different models. However, you can subscribe to the newsletter to not miss anything.
