Rewe is currently planning a test for “cash-free shopping” in the supermarket. The concept is to be tested in Cologne.
Pay by app – that’s how it works!
Anyone who then purchases in the relevant Rewe supermarket only needs the associated app. If this is activated, the corresponding products only have to be taken from the shelf. After that, the customer can go home – without a guilty conscience. Because: the invoice is sent automatically via the app. The associated technology is called “Pick & Go” and comes from Trigo Vision. Rewe calls the new possibilities “hybrid shopping”. Namely, it should also be possible to pay as usual.
So that the whole thing works, the respective purchase is documented with images. Customers should not be personally identifiable here.
The concept is reminiscent of the Amazon shops, which also enable consumers to have a “checkout-free shopping experience”. Whether Rewe will continue to incorporate the options into its day-to-day shopping will certainly also depend on the results of the test phase in Cologne’s Zeppelinstrasse. This will start in late summer this year.
