Huawei Smartband 6 review: simple but effective

Halfway between a sports tracker and a connected watch, the Huawei Band 6 completes the ultra-competitive market for smartbands, these all-in-one bracelets dedicated to physical activity.

Presented in April 2021, the Huawei Band 6 connected bracelet comes into direct competition with Xiaomi’s Mi Band 6 released at the same time. Less complete than a real connected watch, but also much less expensive, the terminal dedicated to sports practice offers many well-thought-out features for assumed entry-level positioning.

Design and ergonomics

Delivered with its USB-A magnetic pin charger, the Huawei Band 6 retains the sober and sporty look of a classic smartband, while benefiting from a 1.47 inch screen slightly less imposing than Xiaomi’s Mi Band 6 ( 1.56 inch). On the sidelines of his 194 × 368 px rectangular OLED panel, Huawei’s Band 6 has a flexible silicone strap available in black, green, amber or pink, thin enough to fit all wrists. In terms of the case, the brand has made the choice of all plastic, but the latter still benefits from a nice finish with its single side button that allows access to the main menu.

On a daily basis, the Huawei Band 6 knows how to be forgotten. With its 18 grams on the scale (without the bracelet), the smartband is light and very comfortable to wear on a daily basis. Its breathable soft touch silicone strap allows it not to adhere too much to the skin, even in the shower or after a workout. No worries about its exposure to water, since it is waterproof up to 5 ATM.

Sensors and Features

Without offering as many features as a high-end smartwatch, the Huawei Band 6 incorporates a number of tools intended for sports practice. GPS and NFC functions are therefore missing, but we find on the other hand the support of 96 sports activities, activity monitoring with pedometer, continuous heart rate sensor, and SpO2 blood oxygenation measurement. A sleep, stress and menstrual cycle tracking feature is also accessible. Among the additional tools, there is a flashlight, a timer / stopwatch, as well as an alarm and access to the weather forecast. Unlike other wearables, the OS works in a closed circuit, and does not allow you to install other applications. As long as you appreciate the Huawei ecosystem, this is actually not a problem, the features available being numerous enough for everyday use.

Another important component of Huawei’s new smartband is its 180 mAh battery. The absence of GPS no doubt helping, the terminal is able to easily last ten days on a single recharge, even when used daily. By turning off the continuous heart rate sensor and limiting notifications through the phone, the Band 6 can achieve 14 days of autonomy promises the brand. In the event of a breakdown, a 5-minute charge can recover up to 2 days of battery life if necessary.

OS and interface

While the Realme Watch S Pro had a tendency to lose us in its too scattered interface, the LiteOS interface of the Huawei Band 6 knows how to make it simple and efficient. By pressing the single side button, the home screen gives way to the main menu, while swiping up, you access phone notifications. By swiping to the left or right, we find pages dedicated to stress management, music or even heart rate. Everything is obviously customizable, directly on the bracelet or via the Huawei Health application.

If the Band 6 does with all the honors regarding its interface, the same goes for the dedicated application. After registering with a Huawei account, the software offers a menu entirely customizable and very intuitive. At a glance, we find his activity diary, his stress, sleep or menstrual cycle monitoring.

Where to buy it?

Available from April 22, 2021, the Huawei Band 6 is available at the contained price of 59€. At that price, we readily forgive its design a little too wise and the absence of GPS.
