Stephen King has not finished making us shiver. The novelist behind “it” is collaborating with Apple TV + for Lisey’s Story, the adaptation of his eponymous novel.
The universe of Stephen King will once again invade our screens. The novelist is about to unveil Lisey’s Story, a series adapted from his eponymous novel. This thriller follows Lisey Landon, two years after the death of her husband, Scott Landon, a famous novelist. A series of disturbing protests brings back memories of her union with Scott, which had hitherto been buried. She then finds herself plunged into a strange treasure hunt, left on her late husband’s desk.
To develop this new production, Apple TV+ appealed to the novelist. He is writing eight episodes of this first season. Production is handled by JJ Abrams through his company Bad Robot. Behind the camera, it is the director Pablo Larrain who will stick to it. The Chilean filmmaker will sign his second series here, more than ten years after making Profugos for HBO. In the casting, we will find Julianne Moore (The fugitive) as the main character. The actress will give the answer to Clive Owen (The Knick), Joan Allen (Room) et Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man). Sung Kang (Power) will also be part.
40 million subscribers in 2020
Launched in 2019, Apple TV + is struggling to establish itself in the panorama of SVOD offers. It must be said that the platform relies on a new strategy, adding only new content to its catalog. However, the apple is making its little way and would have reached the bar of 40 million subscribers in 2020. According to the Statista study, Apple TV + recorded significant growth for the year 2020 since it had 33.6 million subscribers at the end of 2019. Encouraging figures therefore, but which must be qualified. According to the firm MoffetNathan, 62% of Apple TV + users do not pay for their subscription. Most of them benefit from a one-year free subscription, offered after the purchase of a new product from the brand such as iPhones and Macbooks. For comparison, Disney + which was launched at the same time, already has more than 100 million paying subscribers. It remains to be seen whether productions like Lisey’s Story will attract new users. In view of the popularity of the novelist, we can bet yes.
Lisey’s Story will air from June 4th, with two episodes at launch. Then she will continue to a weekly rhythm for six weeks.
