Instagram is implementing the option that allows users to clarify their pronouns in profiles. An option that has been available on Facebook and other apps for a long time.
At the moment, it is only available in a few countries, but they hope to extend it to more users in the future.
Instagram adds a new option in the profile settings
Instagram announced that the option to define pronouns in profiles is now available in some countries. We have already seen that many users have chosen to clarify the pronouns with which they want to be referred to in Twitter biographies or Instagram profiles.
There are other apps that have long added this option in the configuration, such as OkCupid, which allows users to choose their pronouns by adding different options for gender and sexual orientation. And perhaps one of the first is to add this option was Facebook, which now allows the choice of pronouns to also be part of the Instagram profile configuration.
As you can see in the image above, you will find this configuration in “Edit profile” along with the options to add the username and nickname. Instagram allows you to add up to 4 pronouns in the profile, which will be displayed next to the name in the profile.
Of course, this information can be modified as many times as the user wishes, as is the case with most configuration data. Another option that is added when completing this field in the profile settings is to indicate if you want the chosen pronouns to be visible publicly or only to friends.
And in case the pronoun that the user wants to add is not included in the Instagram options, they can fill out a form so that they can be added in the future. At the moment, this option is only available in a number of countries that have not been specified, and they hope to reach more in the future.
