From now on, users of a Windows 10 computer can install the desktop version of the SmartThings app from Samsung on their PC and use it to control their smart home devices via the app.
SmartThings app now also available for Windows 10 PCs
Only recently, support for Google Nest was integrated into the Android version of the app in the SmartThings app. As a result of the growing partnership between Samsung and Microsoft, the desktop version of the SmartThings app can now also be used under Windows 10. In this way, users can synchronize their Android app with the desktop version and control their connected smart home devices via their PC. Due to the increase in the number of compatible smart home devices, the SmartThing app has become an important control tool for remote monitoring and control of functions in the house.
If you want to install the app on your Windows 10 computer, you can download it from the Microsoft Store. However, there are a few downsides: on the one hand, new smart home devices cannot currently be added to the desktop version under Windows 10, and on the other hand there is no support for Google Nest devices. In addition, although for Google Nest-Devices created rooms are displayed in the Windows app, but the cameras and thermostats are missing. The app in itself offers a broad user interface that allows users to seamlessly interact with their smart home devices. It can also be used in combination with other functions, for example to find lost Samsung AirTags.
It is currently not known whether the functions of the Samsung SmartThings app for Windows 10 will be expanded. It is assumed, however, that the partnership between Samsung and Microsoft will be further expanded and bring new developments with it.
