The 54-year-old Japanese artist is known as one of the masters of dark fantasy, notably through his prolific medieval fantasy series. Berserk, which has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide since its creation in 1989. The author was also awarded in 2002 in the Award of Excellence category of the Osamu Tezuka Japanese Cultural Prize.

“When I started the show, I was less concerned with its ending than telling a story that would end sooner or later anyway, but I realized that life is not eternal ” – Kentaro Miura (Glénat interview, 2019)

Unfinished Berserk

Started in 1989, Berserk has become in more than three decades, one of the most famous manga of his generation. Violent and extremely detailed, Kentaro Miura had succeeded in making his work a reference in dark fantasy, to the point of counting (among others) animated and video game adaptations. In 2019, during an interview with his French publisher Glénat, he confided “Pray to finish her while she is alive”. 363 chapters later, Kentaro Miura disappears, taking with him the outcome of Berserk, whose last chapter published during his lifetime dates from January 22. A few chapters written by the mangaka should continue to emerge in the coming months. For the rest, we will probably have to resolve to mourn.
