The developers have answered some questions about the new features of the PS5, among other topics.
Scheduled for the end of the year, Horizon Forbidden West recently revealed itself in an all-new gameplay video featured during the last State of Play. In an interview with Game Informer, the developers Mathijs de Jonge and Benjamin mccaw returned to some details both technical and narrative concerning the future blockbuster. Against the backdrop of the new gameplay video, the developers discussed the new features on PS5, new characters and much more. First of all, Mathijs de Jonge explained what would be the differences between the PS5 and PS4 version of the game, as well as the new possibilities brought by the new generation console.
It evokes in particular the significantly improved graphics. According to him, these call even more the players to explore their environment. For those who are afraid to relive a situation similar to the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt, the developers insist that the vast majority of development took place on PS4 and Horizon Forbidden West has been rigorously tested on the older generation console so that no player is left on the sidelines.
At the same time, the PS5 version will be more graphically provided and will offer better overall visual quality than the PS4 version. Mathijs de Jonge explains that the waves and the underwater environment have been worked more than on Horizon Zero Dawn. Additionally, the Cinematic Lighting System will be applied throughout the game on the PS5 version, while it will only be used during cutscenes on the PS4 version. Indeed, the new generation console has all the power necessary to take advantage of this type of technique, unlike the previous model.
The scenario is still unclear for the moment
Benjamin McCaw revealed that we should spend more time with secondary characters in Horizon Forbidden West. They will be more prominent in the main quests, but also in the side quests. The developers want to give the impression that we can really count on our most loyal companions, such as Erend in the video. It also confirms the arrival of new secondary characters. According to him, these should really appeal to the players.
Benjamin McCaw also explains that Erend is making his return in the second installment of the franchise partly because he is one of the favorite NPCs of the players, but also because he is one of the favorite characters of the team of writers. . As for the map, the gameplay video reveals a bay of San Francisco fallen and covered by nature. Benjamin McCaw therefore explains that the DNA of games Horizon is to work with iconic American locations and that exploration of players in Forbidden West will lead them to some of these places, without revealing which ones.
