Google Meet finally brings one of the most anticipated features to mobile to customize the background of video calls.
While the Google team promised that Meet would have this feature last year, it is now officially integrated into Android. And on the other hand, there is also a new option to change the background of video calls from the web.
So you can blur your video calls on Google Meet on your mobile
Yes, at last you will have the possibility to change the background of your video calls when you use the app Google Meet. A feature that has long been available on the web version of Meet.
The dynamics is the same, since you can use the images provided by Google taking into account a series of scenarios … different landscapes, library and office spaces, abstract backgrounds, among other options.
And if you don’t want to use any background image in Google Meet, but you don’t want your surroundings to show, then you can choose to blur it. One detail to keep in mind is that this option is not enabled by default, so you will have to activate it and choose the option that interests you for the background.
You can do this before starting a video call, or during the meeting. To do this, go to “Change background”. You will see that it offers you the options to completely blur the background, a soft blur or the possibility of loading an image from the Google library.
Keep in mind that changing the background or whatever option you have chosen to blur it, can affect the autonomy of the mobile. And on the other hand, if you see that the “Change background” option does not work on your mobile, keep in mind that this function is only compatible with more recent devices.
If you take a look at the Google Help Center you will see that it mentions Samsung Galaxy S9 and later, Pixel 3 and later, and similar devices, among the supported mobiles.
Use videos as a background in the web version of Google Meet
The Google team announced another option to customize the background of video calls: videos.
Yes, you will be able to use videos as the background when you use Google Meet, although only from the web version. Following the same dynamic that is used with images, the user will only be able to choose the videos provided by Google.
At the moment, there are only 3 very colorful videos available, but they promise to add more options in the future.
