On the sidelines of the Amazon Prime Video series, which is due to hit our screens by 2022, Warner Bros. and New Line are reportedly preparing an anime for the big screen. Called The Lord of the Ring: The War of Rohirrim, it will be shown in theaters.
Good news for fans of Tolkien’s universe, we’re going to go back to Middle-earth. According to Variety, Warner Bros. and New Line are preparing an animated film based on the British author’s novels. The plot will transport us to the Deep of Helm which had already appeared in the second installment of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. It will explore the story of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan who spent most of his reign at war.
Called The War of Rohirrim, the film planned for theaters will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama, already working for the series Ultraman on Netflix. The writing of the screenplay was entrusted to Jeffrey Addis and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal : Age of Resistance) and production will be handled by Joseph Chou (The Blade Runner : Black Lotus).
If the plot should be connected with the saga of Peter Jackson, despite the fact that it will transport us several centuries before the War of the Ring, it will be developed on the sidelines of the series ofAmazon Prime Video. Still filming in New Zealand, the creation of the SVOD platform should land on our screens by the end of 2021 according to the latest news. It will take place almost 3000 years the events of The Hobbit and the first three parts of the saga. She will follow a group of characters who travel to Middle-earth as the evil forces of Misty Mountain resurface.
In development for three years, this new series is long overdue. If the pandemic can explain this delay a little, artistic differences would also be to be deplored. Australian actor Tom Budge, who was set to star in the series, was finally excluded from the project by decision of the studios. On his Instagram, he simply explained that the studios had finally decided to take a different direction with his character. This kind of setback is not always very reassuring, especially just a few months before the announced release. However, we will have to wait until the revelation of the first images to get an idea of what the firm of Jeff Bezos has in store for us.
