Apple TV + is beefing up its game for the end of 2021. The platform will broadcast The Shrink Next Door, a mini-series with Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell as the headliner next November. Here is the trailer.
What happens when a psychiatrist uses his proximity to his patient to manipulate him? This is the problem that will be explored The Shrink Next door sure Apple TV+ next November. Yesterday, the firm gave a first glimpse of its new mini-series in eight episodes. Based on a true story, the series chronicles the strange relationship between Dr. Isaac and his longtime patient Marty Markowitz. Over time, this seemingly charming psychiatrist interfered in Marty’s life until he persuaded him to appoint him president of his family business and let him move into his home in the Hamptons.
Inspired by the eponymous podcast, which is literally translated “The Psych next door”, The Shrink Next Door was written by Georgia Pritchett. The screenwriter was notably awarded at the Golden Globes for the series Succession. Behind the camera, Michael Showalter will work (The Big Sick). Jesse Peretz (Modern Love) should also directed a few episodes.
Finally, to embody the main characters, Apple TV + has debauched two regulars of the genre namely Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd. This is not the first time that the two actors share the poster since they had already collaborated in Featured Presenter: The Legend of Ron Burgundy in 2005. They will give the answer to Kathryn Hahn (Wandavision) et Casey Wilson (Gone Girl), who respectively play the sister of Marty and the wife of Doctor Isaac.
To discover The Shrink Next Door, Apple TV + is meeting its subscribers on November 12th. On that date, the first three episodes will be available. Then, the platform will broadcast an episode every week, every Friday. As a reminder, Apple TV + announced earlier this month a slew of new series. The platform also confirmed that most of its existing productions would be renewed. With all this new content, Apple TV + now has strong arguments to compete with Disney + and Netflix, which still sits in second and third place respectively in the ranking of the most popular platforms. Remember, however, that the reduction of the trial period to Apple TV +, which will go from 12 to 3 months next July, could cause a loss of speed for the apple streaming service.
