For televisions from Toshiba and Insignia with integrated Fire TV, a new update brings AirPlay 2 and HomeKit with it.
Toshiba and Insignia Fire TV Edition controllable with HomeKit
A new update for two Fire TV models from Toshiba and Insignia from 2020 ensures that control via HomeKit is now also possible and AirPlay 2 is also supported. After the update, however, you have to activate the HomeKit integration manually in the settings. With HomeKit it is then possible to switch the television on and off, control the volume and change the input. Voice control with Siri is also implemented in this way.
The Fire TV televisions from 2021 have not yet received the update mentioned, but should follow soon. In Germany, however, the Fire TV editions from Toshiba and Insignia are less widespread. Here, at least on Amazon, there are models from Grundig and, brand new, from homeX. As the name suggests, Fire TV is firmly integrated into the television and there is no longer a need for a Fire TV Stick. There are similar things in the form of soundbars from TCL and Nebula.
