Netflix finally confirmed that it is taking its first steps in integrating games to the platform,
The goal is not to replace the content that is displayed on the platform, but to offer new options to users. And yes, you can have these games without having to pay an additional cost, since they will be part of the Netflix subscription.
Netflix will offer mobile games at no additional cost
As part of Netflix’s semi-annual report to shareholders, it has confirmed that it is expanding into games, as shared on The Verge:
We are also in the early stages of further expansion to games, building on our previous efforts around interactivity. […] We see games as another new category of content for us, similar to our expansion to original movies, animation, and unscripted television. Games will be included in members’ Netflix subscription at no additional cost similar to movies and series. Initially, we will focus primarily on games for mobile devices.
So in this early stage, Netflix will focus on offering mobile games to subscribers at no additional cost, as part of their subscription. Of course, there will be no ads or in-game purchases.
Netflix clarifies that it is not seeking to replace the commitment to series and movies, but that they want to venture into new content that they believe could capture the interest of users.
So they would not only have fans of the series or those looking for new movies, but also those who can not detach from their favorite games. Yes, Netflix not only wants us to watch movies with the family or on the couch doing a series marathon, but also to be on the mobile screen playing a game. More options, more time on the platform.
At the moment, there are no more details about this new Netflix proposal. So we don’t know yet what types of games will be included on the platform, although the first titles may be based on some of its franchises. And they have not mentioned how they plan to integrate them into the mobile app or when the first games will begin to arrive.
What would be expected is that Netflix’s proposal is insurmountable in attracting users, since it will have to face great monsters as competition.
