Apple’s small tablet would be entitled to a major overhaul this year, the first since its launch in 2012.
New design, new screen, USB-C, increased power… Leaks continue to accumulate around the next one iPad mini, and paint a particularly flattering portrait of the tablet.
The iPad mini has long been left out of Apple’s tablet lineup, simply benefiting from meager upgrades to its processor every now and then. It has never changed its design since its launch in 2012, and its last renewal date of 2019… four years after the previous version. But if it wasn’t really a priority for Apple in recent years, the iPad mini seems to have a bright future, if we are to believe the information gleaned by 9To5Mac.
An iPad mini “Pro”?
The American media specialist in the Apple brand is already starting to confirm the previous rumors around the next iPad mini. This one should be entitled to a redesign – the first in forever – with a brand new chassis with straight edges and a screen with thin borders. Exit the Home button, the device would integrate a Touch ID sensor integrated into its unlock button, located on the edge. In fact, it would be neither more nor less than a iPad Air 4 miniature.
9To5Mac adds that this iPad mini 6 would trade its Lightning port for a USB-C port, and would even have the right to a Smart Connector to connect a keyboard. Logically, we can therefore expect a miniature version of the Magic Keyboard to accompany the small tablet. The news outlet adds that the slate – codenamed J310 – wouldn’t skimp on power thanks to an A15 chip, the SoC expected on the next generation ofiPhone 13.
It all sounds a bit too good to be true, but we might be fixing it soon since Bloomberg previously claimed that this new iPad mini would be launched in fall 2021.
