Corning has just presented new glasses intended to protect the photo sensors of future smartphones while promoting quality.
For many years, Corning has become a key player in the world of smartphones. The company is indeed at the origin of the Gorilla Glass that can be found on the front of our phones, Ceramic Shield de l’iPhone 12 au Gorilla Glass Victus des smartphones Android premium.
However, if we often praise the Gorilla Glass on smartphone screens, we speak less often of the glass covering the rear photo sensors. However, the photo has become one of the most important factors when it comes to choosing a smartphone today, and the glass that covers a photo block is not to be taken lightly since it can clearly affect the image quality.
This is how Corning unveils two new products, intended to find their place on the back of our smartphones; Corning Gorilla Glass with DX et Corning Glass with DX+. These glasses have the particularity of combining both resistance and optical quality.
“Corning’s Gorilla Glass composites not only provide camera lens covers for mobile devices with improved scratch resistance and durability over traditional coatings, but also the enhanced optical performance required for these devices (…) By capturing 98% of the light for the camera lens, our glass composites increase the full capacity of the camera design and help create high quality images and videos ” Corning vice president and general manager Jaymin Amin explained.
The first smartphone to benefit from this type of glass will be from Samsung, explains Corning. It is not yet clear which model will be affected, but it could well be a new folding smartphones of the brand whose presentation is expected on August 11.
