CD Projekt has communicated about the next-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, and that’s not necessarily to give good news.
Recently, CD Projekt announced the upcoming arrival of premiers DLC de Cyberpunk 2077, which only include cosmetic elements. Today, the Polish studio returns with new announcements, which do not bode well for the release of next-gen versions of the game. Indeed, although a release for this year is still the studio’s goal, it might have difficulty realizing it and so these versions could be postponed until 2022. The developers told investors that “[ils ne peuvent] not say with complete certainty that the production schedule will not change“.
A domino effect that affects all CD Projekt projects
This is very sad news for the players of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 and Xbox Series, which have been patiently awaiting an optimized version since the start of 2021. Originally, these updates were scheduled for the second half of 2021, for release around the summer. However, CD Projekt Red has had a series of hard knocks since the end of 2020, and has had to adapt its schedule accordingly.
The delay is mainly due to the cyberattack suffered by the studio in January, gradually shifting the corrective patches 1.1 and 1.2, and subsequently the next-gen versions, as well as the expansion DLCs which were also planned for this end of the year. It goes without saying that these are not expected by 2022 as well.
As a reminder, a next-gen version of The Witcher 3 was also scheduled for this year, and it would appear that this one is subject to the same treatment as Cyberpunk 2077. However, CD Projekt Red remains confident and hopes to be able to meet the deadlines as planned.
