With its new Galaxy Watch4 series, Samsung wanted to improve the user experience and has also decided to collaborate with Google. The first customer opinions are mixed, so that the question arises here whether this was the right way.
High customer expectations were only partially met
Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch4 models in its Event am 11.August really big. There was talk of an increased user experience and far-reaching improvements. This should all go hand in hand with the cooperation with Google and the adoption of Samsung’s own operating system Tizen and towards a new, completely redesigned Google Wear OS.
After some delivery bottlenecks occurred due to the high demand and Samsung’s problems with the pre-order calculation, the first users have already been able to test the watches and report on their experiences online.
The customer opinions are mixed. If you look at the recessions on Amazon, Samsung’s plan doesn’t seem to have worked out. The battery life and the immature operating system are criticized.
I noticed something similar in my test, because I had high expectations after such an announcement. Regardless of whether it is the lack of an option to uninstall some of the pre-installed apps, the lack of Google Assistant or the non-existent ECG and blood pressure function when using the smartwatch without a Samsung smartphone. It all seems a bit immature. Sure, that some users are disappointed.
Another point is the lack of compatibility with iOS. Not that I think that’s bad, because anyone who knows the Samsung Health app on the Samsung Galaxy Watch3 under iOS knows how bad it actually was. I really applaud here that Samsung has chosen to ditch iOS compatibility as I’m a friend of all or nothing. And that was really nothing under Tizen. But it’s still stupid for all iPhone users who have been looking forward to the new Watch4.
I just hope that Samsung and Google will quickly improve this with updates in order to really make the announced experience tangible for everyone.
