- Xiaomi phones with the MIUI user interface should be better protected against malware.
- Sideloading of apps from unknown sources will be prevented in the future thanks to “Pure Mode”.
- In China, the test phase is starting with selected participants.
Xiaomi leads with Pure Mode introduced a new level of security for its smartphones with MIUI. This is intended to block the so-called sideloading of applications in the future before they can cause damage to your device.
As AndroidAuthority reported, the function is optional. Once activated, however, it prevents installation files from being installed from sources other than the official app store. This also applies to unwanted installations in the background. Most often, however, the problem is in front of the display.
User behavior as a back door into the system
Xiaomi justifies the development with statistical surveys on user behavior. Accordingly, around 40 percent of the applications on Xiaomi devices are obtained from unofficial sources that evade security checks. 10 percent of this is classified as a security risk.
From September 6th to 10th, Pure Mode will go through the beta test phase in China and will be distributed to around 1,000 devices every day. As soon as this phase is completed, nothing stands in the way of a global release, but Xiaomi is still silent on this.
