A black veil flutters nervously in the spotlight, in the center of a stage. Suddenly the music gets louder, the ambient lights go out and a group of rowdy and smiling dancers dressed in the most disparate colors burst onto the scene, removing all cover and showing the audience what is underneath. Beyond the veil, the new Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, the most powerful variation of the current Mach-E range. A runaway horse that promises endless electric emotions, which can be ordered in Europe since last July.
Now the car has officially arrived in our country, driven by the frenetic dance of dancers dressed up for the upcoming Milano Fashion Week Women’s Collection scheduled from 21 to 27 September 2021. Together with the Condé Nast Group, Ford Italia has thus set up a show with almost tribal roots, of which unfortunately we cannot show you anything precisely because of the embargoes related to the upcoming Fashion Week. We hope, however, that through our words we perceive the energy and electricity related to the event – whose photos can be found in our gallery.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is part of the choreography
The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT became part of the choreography, with the dancers who climbed onto its hood and panoramic roof, entered and exited the cockpit, and thus made its “social debut” official. A debut that on paper means having a electric monster with 487 hp and 860 Nm of instant torque (to be clear: this is the 15% more than the Ford GT), in practice by sinking the accelerator pedal you are glued to the seat, with a 0-100 km / h shot possible in just 3.7 seconds.
Magnetic then the color that the Blue Oval has chosen as Prima Carrozzeria: a Cyber Orange with a thousand shades, which changes depending on the lights it is under. Depending on the angle, the color can appear as bright yellow or deep orange, an absolute wonder that is flanked by a more sober Grabber Blue. The standard suspension of the car is instead MagneRide, with 20-inch alloy wheels, 245/45 / R20 tires and seats Ford Performance. The drive is obviously integral, since the platform includes two electric motors, one for each axle. The rear mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor manages to reach peak torque in 0.5 seconds, for frightening and immediately brutal acceleration, while the front engine provides additional torque, traction and power for exceptional cornering response.
It is not the only Mach-E to have two engines, however, the GT boasts an exclusive traction calibration which tends to give more torque to the rear axle, for a more fun and sporty drive. Speaking of fun: the new Untamed Plus driving mode (a modality, the Untamed one, which we already have track tested in the Ford Mustang Mach-E AWD), which helps the driver to maintain the right balance between power and torque, while simultaneously adjusting traction and stability control.
In addition, the steering is improved, the throttle response is even more immediate, the sound of the interior becomes worse and the classic downshifting is simulated – for a driving dynamics very close to that of traditional vehicles, plus the essential properties of electricity. We must not forget the Brembo ventilated front brake discs, 385 mm in diameter, the largest ever mounted on Mach-E.
We conclude this technical overview by talking about the battery, which standard on the Mach-E GT is 88 kWh (usable) e promises a range of up to 500 km according to the WLTP cycle with a single charge. The charging power stops at 150 kW, however enough to charge 97 km in 10 minutes at the Fast Charge columns. From 10% to 80% can be reached in about 45 minutes.
Full of technology
Looking at the cockpit and infotainment, we find a 15.5-inch large Full HD center screen vertically mounted that supports software SYNC, also known as SYNC 4, the latest system created by Ford – which you can learn more by reading all the news of the Ford SYNC 4 system.
The padded Ford Performance seats offer back support even during the most intense driving phases, if you are a music lover you can enjoy the Sound System B&O a 10 altoparlanti. The tailgate, electro-actuated, can also be opened by passing a foot under the bumper and allows us to access a 402-liter trunk. We also remind you that the Mustang Mach-E also offers you a front trunk with a hole to drain any water, you can therefore use it to keep your drinks cool on vacation and you can wash it in case it gets dirty – not surprisingly Ford filled the Mach-E with shrimp and hot wings. Great attention is also paid to safety with various active assistance systems, we immediately think about Cruise Control with adaptive cruise control, Stop&Go e Lane Centring.
It’s still Active Park, a semi-automatic parking system, e PreCollision Assist with Auto Emergency Brake, automatic braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection.
