The Mazda CX-5 It is the most successful model of the Japanese brand. It is quite simply the best-selling Mazda in the world (3.2 million units since 2012). To keep it on top, Mazda updates its bestsellers with a host of mechanical, technological, safety and aesthetic enhancements. The new Mazda CX-5 will arrive in Spain in January 2022 from 30,900 euros.
Aesthetically, the design of the CX-5 evolves in a discreet, but remarkable way. Although the volumes and shapes do not change, it sports a new grille with more pronounced wings and new, thinner headlights, as well as new LED taillights.
The new CX-5 range will feature six different finishes (Origin, Evolution, Newground, Zenith, Homura and Signature), some of them giving the car a new personality.
For example, the Newground finish gives it a style offroad to the car, with specific bumpers that incorporate silver bumpers, black wheels and mirrors, while the grille is black with lime tones. On board, the upholstery is in imitation leather and calfskin with lime green stitching.
The Homura finish, meanwhile, is the opposite. Offers a sporty touch, a bit in the style of the SEAT FRs. The grille is glossy black with accent notes in red.
The black tone also extends to the lower sections of the bumpers, the wheel arches, the door trims and the exterior mirrors and even the 19-inch alloy wheels are black (metallic in this case). On board, the upholstery is black leather with red contrast stitching.
The Signature finish is the top of the range and the one that offers the most standard equipment. The exterior is a single tone, while the 19-inch alloy wheels are a silver tone. On board, it has brown nappa leather upholstery and decorative trim on the dashboard and doors made of wood. Offers a almost classic luxury.
Level 2 autonomous driving
At a mechanical level, Mazda assures that it has improved the suspension (springs and shock absorbers) “to improve the distribution of support, achieving a significant increase in road response and comfort, especially when driving on uneven surfaces.”
The current Mazda CX-5 already offers a good combination of comfort and dynamism, albeit with a certain firmness of the suspensions. We will see in a future test to what extent it has improved.
On the other hand, for the first time in the CX-5, the car is equipped with a Mazda Intelligent Drive (Mi-Drive) driving modes which allows the driver to select the driving mode with the push of a button.
This system will only be available in the versions in the gasoline versions with automatic transmission, both in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. In case of equipping all-wheel drive, the Mi-Drive selector will additionally have a modo Off-Road, adapted for slippery surfaces (dirt track, gravel, snow).
At the active safety level, the new Mazda CX-5 debuts the i-Activsense system, with Cruise and Traffic Assistant (CTS). The CTS is intended to reduce driver fatigue; it does this by assisting the accelerator, brake pedal and steering wheel movements in slow traffic situations. A system that resembles a level 2 autonomous driving (keep your hands on the wheel).
On the other hand, the new adaptive Smart Full LED headlights now have arrays of 12 to 20 LED modules to control the light distribution with greater precision.
Two gasoline and two diesel engines
The new range of engines for the CX-5 consists of two thrusters diesel, 150 hp and 184 hp, and two Skyactiv-G gasoline, one of 165 CV and another of 194 CV, both with cylinder deactivation (except in the case of 165 CV if it is associated with an automatic gearbox).
The engines may be associated with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic, while the 184 hp and 194 hp CX-5 can be both front-wheel drive and have all-wheel drive.
The new Mazda CX-5 will go on sale from next January and will have a starting price of 30,900 euros CX-5 (2.0 l. Skyactiv-G 165 CV manual gearbox with Origin finish).
The entire range from its access version has 19-inch alloy wheels, rear view camera, Mazda Connect with 10.25-inch central screen (compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and LED daytime running lights, among other elements.
