The Japanese manufacturer unveils a funny lens with two lenses to capture 180 ° VR videos with a single camera.
Virtual reality is democratizing very slowly, but it is still not for everyone to shoot VR images easily. To produce a quality image, it is currently necessary to get two cameras, place them side by side, calculate the depth of field, the space between the two optics, and mount everything in VR. The practice remains expensive and quite technical, mainly reserved for certain professionals only. However, Canon intends to democratize this practice with a simple accessory, and thus boost the creation of content in VR.
“Quality content is lacking”, estimates the famous Japanese manufacturer. To bring out more qualitative content, Canon unveils the RF 5.2mm F2.8L Dual Fisheye, a rather original lens. The lens is equipped with two optics spaced 60mm apart to capture two 4K images on a single device, and thus produce VR videos with a single camera. For now, alone l’EOS R5 from Canon is compatible, thanks to its very defined sensor.
In order to use the images captured with this lens, Canon delivers software called EOS VR Utility as well as a plugin for Adobe Premiere. All this will allow you to decode the sequences taken in 180 ° during editing. The Canon RF 5.2mm F2.8L Dual Fisheye retails for € 2,199.
