Because of the shortage of chips: New car transporters are fighting for survival

New car transporters fear for their existence in the face of difficulties in the car industry. According to the Association of European Vehicle Logistics (ECG), the background is the lack of microchips, which has been a problem for vehicle manufacturers for a long time. “The branch is struggling for the foreseeable third bad year in a row for survival and needs the support of the automobile industry”, said association president Wolfgang Gbel before the beginning of the ECG annual conference on Thursday in Brussels. According to its own statements, the association represents almost 140 companies, including the rail freight subsidiary DB Cargo.

The companies represented take care of the transport of vehicles via motorways, rails or by ship. In the automotive industry there are currently production stops and shift failures due to a lack of semiconductors. (dpa / swi)
