The Ford Focus launches a facelift to compete against the new Peugeot 308, Opel Astra and Volkswagen Golf. And it is that the Ford Focus, although it is one of the best-selling models of the old continent (it is often among the 10 best-sellers), has to face increasingly greater competition in a market in which SUVs do it. they dominate almost everything and make less and less customers interested in a compact.
A few weeks after Ford Fiesta, it is the turn of the Ford Focus to receive its update. Ford updates its Focus, with a Ford logo now prominently positioned in the center of an enlarged grille and an imposing touchscreen as highlights.
Aesthetically, the restyling the Focus applies the same recipe as the Fiesta. In fact, the two cars have been jointly redesigned. The main changes are concentrated in the front: the grille is slightly higher, the logo is now located in the center of the grille and the hood is more horizontal than before.
In addition, the one-piece front, which includes the grille, bumper and side gills, differs depending on the trim level (Titanium, ST-Line, Active). The headlights are now with technology Matrix LED. At the rear, the taillights maintain their design, but with a totally new light signature.
In the automotive industry, as in many other sectors, there are trends. One is to renew the logos with flat versions and no longer in relief, as they did. Peugeot O Volkswagen. Another is to show the brand or model in letters on the trunk lid (as the Focus already did before restyling). And another, more subtle, is that of organize the range in different environments: sport, luxury, adventurer, etc.
Thus, Ford has managed to create different environments according to the chosen finish. The ST-Line it follows the spirit of the sporty ST version, which is still in the range. The Active wants to emulate SUVs with an adventurous style. It stands out for its specific front bumper, side skirts and plastic protections on the wheel arches. Some finishes may have the environment Vignale, which adds a touch of luxury, with leather upholstery included.
A new touch screen and a bigger boot
Inside, the changes are minimal but visible. A new 13.2-inch touchscreen it is now positioned on the dashboard. It incorporates the latest generation of Ford’s operating system, the SYNC 4, more intuitive to use and with better ergonomics; It is no longer necessary to enter numerous submenus to access the desired function.
Following the trend of bet it all on a touch screen, the system groups the air conditioning controls, which continue to be accessible through shortcuts, regardless of the screen chosen. In return, it frees the console from the physical buttons on the air conditioning. As for the sport version ST receives new Ford Performance seats.
In terms of equipment, the Focus may continue to feature a 12.3-inch on-screen digital instrument cluster. It also has the adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, traffic sign recognition. Ford adds the SYNC 4 remote software update, Intersection Assistant and Local Hazard Information, which warns of potential incidents and conflicting crossings on the route.
In terms of space, both in the front and rear seats, nothing changes. Just the volume of the trunk has been slightly increased thanks to the presence of a double bottom. The five-seater body now has 358 liters (compared to 341 liters previously) and the family body goes from 575 to 593 liters.
A new automatic double clutch transmission
Under the hood, the Focus continues to offer diesel and gasoline engines (some with technology microhybrid MHEV). The changes, however, are in the transmissions. The six-speed manual transmission is maintained in the access versions and the eight-speed automatic for the diesel.
As for the petrol Focus, they can now equip a seven-speed dual-clutch Powershift transmission. With one exception, the Focus ST 280, which can be equipped with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
The engine range of the new Ford Focus is as follows:
- 1.0 EcoBoost 100 (M6)
- 1.0 EcoBoost 100 (M6)
- 1.0 EcoBoost MHEV 125 (M6 o Powershift 7)
- 1.0 EcoBoost MHEV 155 (M6 o Powershift 7)
- 2.3 EcoBoost 280 (M6 o A7)
- 1.5 EcoBlue 95 (M6 o A8)
- 1.5 EcoBlue 120 (M6 o A8)
- 2.0 EcoBlue 150 (M6 o A8)
- 2.0 EcoBlue 190 (M6)
With this restyling you don’t have to wait for a revolution. The new Ford Focus does not debut radical changes, simply updates to follow market trends and thus try to stay in the top 10 European compact cars. The prices of the new Ford Focus and its commercialization is planned for the first quarter of 2022.
