Google has just presented its Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. If the design attracted all the attention during this presentation, the Menlo Park firm has hidden some surprises inside the phone.
The week is busy for those passionate about new technologies. While the Apple brand took advantage of our Monday evening to send us two new MacBook Pros in the face, no time to breathe as Google is already back in charge with two high-end smartphones, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro presented as the best in Android.
Available from € 649 for the classic model and € 899 for the Pro version, the two phones of the Menlo Park firm break the entry glass with a design that leaves no one indifferent.
A phone that changes outside and inside
But it’s not just on the back of the phone that the brand has made it strong. Indeed, inside Google offers a model with its own chip. In the same way as the Cupertino company, which took the bet last year to abandon Intel and the manufacturers of traditional chips, Google has decided to produce its own processor which comes to equip the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Both phones then run Android 12.
Among the new features enabled by this new kind of processor, Google announces that automatic translation will be part of it. If the company’s phones have always been known to the general public for their performance in terms of photography, now Google decides to tackle other sectors, and on the strength of its experience with Google translation, offers a translation system instant that works just as well for translating messages as text on photos.
Automatic translation: everything is done locally
A new feature for an Android phone but which has already appeared during Apple’s last WWDC, the Apple brand presenting this new feature as one of the key points of iOS 15 during the presentation of the OS of the firm.
Google, who hasn’t always been the biggest defender of data privacy in particular made a reassuring announcement on this point. Indeed, all of the text detection and processing work will be done locally, on the secure space set up on these Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, thus making it possible to keep these translations in a private sphere, but also, and this is a very important point for future users, who will be able to use this functionality even in the absence of a network. Good news for travelers!
