Alfa Romeo to become an all-electric brand in 2027

Alfa Romeo will release its first electric car in 2024, with an electric version of the Giulia sedan in preparation. Like others in the industry, the Stellantis group brand is betting everything on this new engine.

La Giulia is ” absolutely fantastic “, Boasts Jean-Philippe Imparato, the boss of Alfa Romeo. ” There is a future for this type of car, but it will be an electric future », He explains in an interview with Auto Express. The manufacturer plans to launch its first electric vehicle in 2024, it will likely be an SUV. But the brand does not want to abandon the sedan segment.

Despite the electric drive, the Alfa Romeo boss wants to keep in mind what makes the 111-year-old brand unique: a sporty approach to driving, centered on the pilot. For that, the vehicles must retain a certain lightness. ” Even with a ton battery under me, I want to convey an idea of lightness », Emphasizes Jean-Philippe Imparato. ” It is a fundamental part of Alfa Romeo, and we are building our new range on this basis. ».

This is why the builder works on the sensations. However, there is no question of integrating the artificial noise of a heat engine, but ” probably new sounds and new movements, nothing fake, that’s our intention “. On the production side, the Alfa Romeo platform will migrate to Stellantis’ STLA architecture, which will offer future cars of the brand a range of at least 800 km, with batteries ranging in size from 101 to 118 kWh.

Stellantis dangles 0 to 100 km / h in 2 seconds for vehicles based on this architecture. Based on these characteristics, Alfa Romeo is studying the possibility of a high performance Quadrifoglio version, with more aggressive and better equipped options. The manufacturer wants to switch to all-electric from 2027, which will make it the first Stellantis brand to switch entirely to the new world.
