Max Verstappen sweeps Mexico thanks to a brilliant start but Lewis Hamilton resists Sergio Pérez

The Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Mexico City has been a delirium. Max Verstappen has won the race, the ninth season, and to round off the party Sergio Pérez has also been on the podium. A real Red Bull bath for Mercedes that only needed Pérez to pass Lewis Hamilton in the final laps.

Verstappen’s victory has been cemented at the start, one of those that make time. The world championship leader has boldly overtaken the two Mercedes on the outside, taking the lead and having a clear path to avoid thinking about strategies and imposing a race pace that has been devastating.

Ricciardo took Bottas ahead at the start and then blocked him the entire race

Hamilton Mexico F1 2021

With Verstappen dominating the race at will, the excitement of the race has focused on the fight for second position between Hamilton and Pérez. The Mexican sought to overtake by lengthening his pit stop to attack with cooler wheels, but at no point was he close enough to launch the car, despite the fact that DRS did open.

Still, Red Bull hits Mercedes a good ax in the battle for the constructors’ world championship as Valtteri Bottas leaves Mexico empty. Daniel Ricciardo took him ahead at the start and then spent the entire race locked behind a McLaren that incomprehensibly was not penalized. At least Bottas has taken away the fast lap from Verstappen.

Vettel Mexico F1 2021

Verstappen’s triumph leaves the Dutchman with a 19-point advantage over Hamilton in the general world championship, and now comes Interlagos, another circuit that theoretically should be favorable to Red Bull and where there will be sprint qualification. The difference is already bordering on that of a career advantage. By brands Mercedes is left with only one point of advantage.

The truth is that beyond the Mexican party at the end of the test, the race has not been too entertaining. Pierre Gasly has achieved a fantastic fourth position with a lot of forcefulness, which leaves Alpha Tauri empathizes with Alpine despite Yuki Tsunoda’s accident at the start.

Sainz Mexico F1 2021

Carlos Sainz tried to chase Gasly thanks to a Ferrari team order, who asked Charles Leclerc to give him the position, but when he could not achieve it, he had to return it. In the end Leclerc finishes fifth and Sainz sixth, but Ferrari takes a great booty from Mexico. The Spaniard was faster, but the departure incident condemned him.

The great role of Ferrari contrasts with that of McLaren, which leaves Mexico with a single point at the mercy of Lando Norris. The Briton has returned to be gray, in one of his already usual problematic end of season. As for Ricciardo, he could not score after the accident he caused at the start.

Raikkonen Mexico F1 2021

Ninth position for a Fernando Alonso progressed in the first laps and then he has had a fairly uneventful career. For Alpine it is very uphill to maintain the fifth position in constructors, even though Tsunoda continues to crash. Also today Esteban Ocon has been involved in an accident that has left Mick Schumacher and Tsunoda out.

Solid performance from Sebastian Vettel, seventh with Aston Martin, and Kimi Raikkonen, finishing eighth, his best result of the season. Although Alfa Romeo was not fine with Antonio Giovinazzi’s strategy and lost a double score that would have given them some hope of attacking Williams overall. Next week, Sao Paulo.
