the Recharge concept relies on environmentally friendly materials

By unveiling its new concept, Volvo wanted to go beyond sleeve effects: the Recharge is a “manifesto” for the brand’s new generation of all-electric cars.

The concept Recharge Volvo represents in Volvo’s eyes the model of what the brand will offer in its consumer vehicles in the coming years. First, of course, an electric motor that helps reshape the interior space while improving aerodynamic efficiency.

The interior cabin, more spacious, makes great use of durable materials. Thus, the seat back and part of the dashboard are in Swedish wool, transformed for the occasion into breathable fabric without additives. The storm doors and the floor are also produced entirely from this material.

Volvo has developed a new material called Nordico, which contains recycled components from responsibly managed forests. The Nordico is used for the seat backs, headrests and steering wheel. Another material, linen composite, adorns the back of the headrest, the footrest, as well as the storage spaces. The bumpers are also designed with this composite.

« Inside the Recharge concept we have created a Scandinavian living room feeling », Explains Robin Page in charge of design. At the front takes place a 15-inch touch screen that offers an improved user experience, promises the manufacturer. But it is indeed the use of environmentally friendly materials that is at the heart of the project.

Even Pirelli tires were produced with nature in mind: they contain 94% non-fossil material, and no mineral oil. Lots of experiments here, which allow the concept to reduce its carbon footprint by 80% compared to a 2018 XC60!
