JRR Token, the Lord of the Rings cryptocurrency that has had to close

As I have already commented on some occasions, creating a cryptocurrency is not difficult, the difficult thing is to make people invest in it.

The fact is that some fans of The Lord of the Rings, and its author, JRR Tolkien, decided to create a cryptocurrency called JRR Token, thus taking advantage of the pun. The result was as expected, as the UK-based property of the famous author of “The Lord of the Rings” filed a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization one day after the cryptocurrency went on sale.

They sold it as “The only token that rules them all,” and created two domains jrrtoken and thetokenofpower, with images reminiscent of characters from Middle-earth. In one there was a hobbit’s house, in the other a Gandalf-like wizard.

Copyright owners have had it easy against lawyers:

Tolkien’s property has a duty to protect JRR Tolkien’s name and the content of his beloved books. This was a particularly flagrant infringement case, which sought to gain financial gain by associating the cryptocurrency with the name of JRR Tolkien and literary works.

It is not known if there is a fine or not, but the sites have deleted all their content, and the cryptocurrency has not had a day of glory, although the idea of the name was not all bad.

It is possible that now, with the case, the owners of the LOTR rights decide to get down to work and enter a sector that seems to have no limits.
