Last fall the Toyota Hilux GR Sport, the most aggressive variant of Toyota’s providential pick-up and exclusively for the Japanese market. But we have good news: this version of the Hilux too will be marketed in Europe, which includes Spain.
The Japanese brand has just unveiled the ingredients of this Hilux GR Sport for the European market, which comes with a distinctive image and some other technical trinkets.
It will be offered only in the option of double cab body and with its most powerful mechanics, its arrival on the market being fixed for summer of this newly released 2022. Thus, the pick-up joins the family of GR Sport sports finishes, in which we also find the Yaris, to Corolla o al C-HR.
Sports suit for one of the reference pick-ups
Starting with what you see, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport it is distinguished aesthetically from the rest of the truck family in various elements.
As the Grill, which has a mesh with specific motif and it lacks a logo: the horizontal bar that divides the grille, and that in this variant is finished in a carbon fiber style, integrates the Toyota name and the acronym GR. A nice nod to the eighties fourth generation Hilux.
More prominent defenses, some new fog lights more generous and various accents in black they are also present. In this tonality they dress the rear-view mirrors, the running boards, the frames of the wheel arches or the tailgate handle.
And the set is completed with some 17 inch wheels, equally specific, that are finished in aluminum with the interior in black.
For its part in the cabin we find sport trim seats upholstered in black leather and synthetic suede with red perforations and contrasting stitching also in this tonality.
In addition, it has a large trim that mimics carbon fiber on the dashboard, in combination with another one in red, and on the door panels there are also carbon fiber-style inserts and a line illuminated in blue.
The GR SPORT logo is present on the seat backs, on the floor mats, on the start button or in the animated welcome graphic on the multimedia screen.
New suspension accompanied by self-locking and 204 hp
On a mechanical level, this Toyota Hilux GR Sport has already known ingredients. It will be selectable with its most powerful engine, which is diesel from 2.8 liters, 204 hp and 500 Nm, and only with the automatic gearbox six-speed.
It also integrates new features released in the latest generation of the truck, such as the limited slip differential or active traction control.
These benefits are added to a suspension that has been specifically adjusted on this Hilux GR Sport: it has new monotube shock absorbers and also new front coil springs, which are stiffer.
According to Toyota, this revised suspension boasts a faster response, as well as an improved ride feel and response to steering. The brand also claims that it contributes to a more comfortable ride, thanks to neutralizing high-frequency vibrations and tightening the body roll more shortly.
Finally, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport will offer the same equipment as its most complete variant, therefore having front LED headlights (although this will vary depending on the market), keyless start and access, dual zone climate control or descent control, among others.
To know its price, we will have to wait until its commercialization date approaches, set for the third quarter of the year. In the case of Spain, its version with the same mechanical configuration and a higher finish starts at over 50,000 euros, so it is to be expected that it is in that price range.
