Yazeed Al-Rajhi wins at home by just 14 seconds and Carlos Sainz borders on another epic Dakar victory

Carlos Sainz has brushed the ground on the fourth stage of the Dakar. After his historic victory yesterday, the Audi driver had to open the track on the longest stage of the entire rally, but still he was close to victory. He was leading up to the ninth kilometer point, but was ultimately overtaken by Yazeed Al-Rajhi and Nasser Al-Attiyah.

Finally the victory has been for the local pilot, Yazeed Al-Rajhi, who has been a prophet in his land, surpassing Nasser Al-Attiyah in just 14 seconds. It is Al-Rajhi’s third stage victory since the Dakar Rally has been raced in his country, Saudi Arabia, and it relaunches him to fight for the final podium.

More problems for Peterhansel and Nani Roma

Roma Dakar 2022

The stage, despite being tough and long, was especially tight. Not only because of the 14 seconds that have separated Al-Attiyah from Al-Rajhi, but because Sébastien Loeb lost just 39 seconds to the winner of the stage. Practically a triple tie to which we could add Carlos Sainz, fourth at 1:06 and opening the track.

Therefore, this stage ends in a technical draw between Al-Attiyah and his great rival for the title, a Sébastien Loeb who is increasingly forced to wait for a Toyota failure. The nine-time rally champion lost many of his options in Stage 3, when he lost traction on his front wheels.

Peterhansel Dakar 2022

There was a fifth element that had a chance of victory, but it was left behind. Is about Henk Lategan, Toyota’s young South African pearl who at 27 years He was leading the stage until he had to stop due to a problem with his right rear wheel. In any case, Lategan is showing signs of being the future of the Dakar.

It was not the only drama of the day. Misfortune has once again prevailed with Stéphane Peterhansel, which once again had to stop in the middle of the desert to make a long repair. In this case, the shock absorber on the left rear wheel has broken, and if you do not repair it in time you will have to say goodbye to the race. It is not possible to reengage twice.

Al Attiyah Dakar 2022

If we take into account that Mattias Ekström has also had problems and loses more than half an hour, Audi’s great hope to be on the final podium is Carlos Sainz. The Madrilenian is still far away, but he shows that he has the speed to make the drive to recover that minute lost on Sunday.

Good stage for Yasir Seaidan, 1:48 behind his compatriot Al-Rajhi, and more problems for Nani Roma, who could say goodbye to the Dakar, at least to the competition. The Prodrive rider had mechanical problems at the beginning of the stage after capsizing, around kilometer 80, and had to withdraw from the test.
