Majority in joint venture with US start-up: Rheinmetall expands e-mobility business

In cooperation with a US start-up, the auto supplier and armaments company wants to Rheinmetall strengthen its business with electromobility. To this end, the MDax Group is taking over three quarters of the shares in a new joint venture with the capacitor manufacturer Polycharge, as announced by Rheinmetall. In addition, the company is investing in the Americans with a stake of around 13 percent. The parties agreed not to disclose the price, it said.

The start-up Polycharge specializes in the development and production of capacitors. According to the announcement, their special NanoLam technology ensures better cooling and a longer service life for capacitors. The company has 15 employees at its headquarters in Tucson, Arizona. Sales are in the single-digit million range in US dollars, a Rheinmetall spokesman said on request.

Exclusive marketing rights

According to Rheinmetall, the joint venture with Polycharge has the exclusive right to manufacture and market the special capacitors in Europe. The Dsseldorf group intends to use the cooperation to meet the increasing demand for components for e-mobility in the automotive supply and armament sector. (dpa-AFX / gem)
