Henk Lategan wins the last stage of the Dakar and Nasser Al-Attiyah certifies his fourth title for Toyota

The Dakar 2022 has already finished. Nasser Al-Attiyah has been proclaimed champion in a very conservative last stage in which he has practically been waving. He has entered the finish line sixteenth, losing almost eight minutes with the best time in only 164 kilometers of special, but none of that prevents the Dakar from being his.

The stage victory went to Henk Lategan, the second for him in this edition of the Dakar. The 27-year-old South African has been the great revelation of this edition of the rally and assures Toyota a generational replacement of guarantees if they need it. There will be a lot of talk about Lategan in the future of the Dakar.

Sébastien Loeb is once again on the verge of victory and Al-Rajhi completes the podium

Al Attiyah Dakar 2022

the of Al-Attiyah is his fourth Dakar title, and his second with Toyota. The Qatari had already won glory driving for Volkswagen and for MINI, but it is at Toyota that he is finding the continuity and stability that allow him to dominate the Dakar. He is the pilot to follow.

The last stage victory was about to be taken by Stéphane Peterhansel, who was leading the standings until Lategan arrived at the last minute and overtook him by 49 seconds. In any case, the second week of Audi has been very promising and gives hope for its future.

Sainz Dakar 2022

Carlos Sainz has faced this last stage without assuming any type of risk. In one of the most complicated editions of the Madrid race in recent years, he finished the last special in twentieth position, losing 9:16 at the finish line. At least he keeps the two stage victories and that the Audi works.

Sébastien Loeb has tried until the last day, but he has to settle for second place overall. The Prodrive rider finished the stage fourth, 2:20 behind Lategan. One more time, Loeb continues to resist the long-awaited Dakar that would put the icing on the cake of his brilliant career as a pilot.

Baragwanath Dakar 2022

The Dakar podium is completed by the local hero, Yazeed Al-Rajhi, who shows that the Toyota also works in its 4×2 version. The Saudi has made a stage of total control to Orlando Terranova, who was his most direct rival for that podium but who has barely been able to cut a couple of minutes in the last stage.

The last stage has also had its place for surprises, and the largest has been given by the South African Brian Baragwanath, who only had 1:51 minutes left to take the victory with the Century. Nani Roma is not free of problems even in the last stage of the Dakar, and has given another 24 minutes to finish.
