Ambee 2.0 – New app version for dynamic light with Philips Hue

Big upgrade for the Ambee app for your Philips Hue bulbs. The Ambee App has now been released in version 2.0. With the Ambee app you can create your very own dynamic light for your Philips Hue bulbs. The updated app is now available in the iOS and Android stores.

Ambee App 2.0 – Dynamic light for your Hue lights

The Ambee app has been around for a few years and version 2.0 was already being thought about in 2019 and finally announced in 2021. The development has now taken some time, but I think the result is quite impressive.

With the Ambee App 2.0 you can conjure up beautiful dynamic light animations with your Philips Hue lights. You can either select all lamps in your home, individual rooms or groups. The new app has been redesigned from the ground up.

Here are all the new features of version 2.0:

  • Better Grouping – Ambee 2.0 offers groups by Mood, Noise and Sound.
  • The option to favorite and save your own scene groups is in preparation.
  • More control over brightness, speed and tone (if scene with audio). In addition, dynamic scenes can be paused.
  • Smaller scene maps for quick access
  • Light scenes in full-screen mode with the control options mentioned above
  • PiP (picture in picture) of the currently active dynamic scene for faster access
  • Android Support
  • iPad Support

Note: At the time this article was published, the Android version was not yet available. Should be updated within a few hours though.

All previous purchases are saved under the user’s account forever. Ambee 2.0
is now based on a subscription basis. From now on you only have these three options:

  • annually (49.99 euros)
  • monthly (8.49 euros)
  • weekly (2.99 euros)

Due to the current events there is a new light scene called “Slava Ukraini!” This plays the Ukrainian national anthem and lets your Philips Hue bulbs shine in yellow and blue. All Ukrainian users get a free membership. The app will be discontinued in Russia and Belarus.

How do you find the structure of the new app, does the design appeal to you? Above all, I’m interested in what you think about the subscription model. Would you prefer one-off purchases for individual scenes? Feel free to write it in the comments!
