Apple Key now supports Kia and Genesis models!

In 2020, Apple introduced a digital car key feature. This allows the user to unlock and start a compatible vehicle simply by holding the iPhone or Apple Watch near the driver’s door. The function was previously only available for selected BMW models.

More cars for Apple Car Key!

According to Apple, the feature has now been extended to select 2022 Genesis and Kia vehicle models. The two car manufacturers belong to Hyundai. Personally, I’m also looking for a vehicle right now and believe it or not. It’s very important to me to get away from keys and chip cards. I also really like the new Kia models. Well, back to the topic.

Apple updated a list of vehicles on its homepage this week. These vehicles get Apple Car Key:

  • Genesis GV60, Genesis G90
  • Kia Niro

It’s unclear if the car key feature is generally available for the aforementioned Genesis and Kia models, or if they’re in the roll-out phase. A Kia spokesman said the company would have more information on the matter in the coming weeks.

Similar to credit cards and boarding passes, digital car keys are stored in the Wallet app on an iPhone or Apple Watch running at least iOS 13.6 or watchOS 6.2.8. Originally, only NFC technology was used, but the newer iPhones also use ultra-wideband technology. This means the iPhone can stay in your pocket, which also reinforces the point of Keyless Go.

How do you find that? Is that an option for you? Do you think like me and don’t want to carry any extra stuff with you? Write in the comments.
