The Mercedes-AMG G 63 ‘Edition 55’ celebrates 55 years of AMG with this optional pack of almost 18,000 euros
AMG turns 55 this years. The small workshop that prepared Mercedes-Benz sedans on its own for the competition and become a manufacturer has been creating the wildest street Mercedes for 55 years.
For the occasion, the company Affalterbach proposes a special edition of the G-classthe Mercedes-AMG G 63 “Edition 55”. Available for the moment only in Europe, this special series comes equipped with a commemorative aesthetic pack valued at 17,850 euros.
Thus, the Edition 55 is available in black “Obsidian Black” metallic or in white “G Manufaktur Opalite White”. In addition to these two paintings, the body sports various motifs printed on the bottom of the doors.
The G 63 anniversary also features 22-inch AMG forged wheels in a cross-spoke design, painted in matt tantalum gray and with a high-gloss rim flange. It is also equipped with the “AMG Night” kits I and II, which include high-gloss black moldings on the grille, the indicators and around the front and rear light clusters.
A luxurious interior, but a series mechanics
The interior is also full of details that allude to its special series status. Opening the door, we are greeted by a stainless steel sill panel with red illuminated ‘AMG’ logo, black AMG floor mats with red stitching and ‘Edition 55’ lettering.
The microfiber-wrapped steering wheel with “AMG” and “55” logos, carbon-fiber trim, and two-tone red and black nappa leather seats complete the sporty interior.
And that’s all that makes this AMG G 63 Edition 55 “special”. Mechanics and chassis are still those of a standard AMG G 63. namely an engine 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 developing 585 hp and delivers 850 Nm of torque.
It is associated with a nine-speed automatic gearbox and to the all wheel drivewhich has three diff locks, in honor of its pure and simple off-road past. It is not that the current G is not, but an AMG G 63 with asphalt tires is not ideal to go on goat tracks.
Mercedes-AMG hints that the G 63’s “Edition 55” package is the first of several “special anniversary packages” that will be introduced in the coming months for different models in the AMG range.
This special series is not limited in the number of units. It is an optional pack that costs 17,850 euros to add to the 183,150 euros of an AMG G 63.
