Employee representation: IG Metall wins works council election at Opel Rüsselsheim

The Opel works council at the Rüsselsheim headquarters has again elected Wolfgang Schäfer-Klug as its chairman. Uwe Baum, who is also Chairman of the General Works Council of the German Stellantis subsidiary, remains the 60-year-old’s deputy. This was announced by the employee representatives on Friday. Schäfer-Klug thanked the workforce for the vote of confidence, which gave the IG Metall list an approval of 91.7 percent with a turnout of 66.4 percent.

Schäfer-Klug has headed the Rüsselsheim works council for ten years. During his tenure, the takeover by the French PSA group, which has meanwhile merged with Fiat-Chrysler to form the world’s fourth-largest car manufacturer, Stellantis. Opel is the only German brand in it and is making profits again after a major downsizing. Employees are to receive a performance bonus for the 2021 financial year. (dpa/swi)
