The American electric car pioneer Tesla is extending the production break at its Shanghai factory until Thursday. Initially, it was planned not to build cars only on Monday. Production is now scheduled to start again on Friday, according to the Bloomberg and Reuters news agencies.
Because of the spread of the corona virus, the authorities have imposed a two-stage lockdown on the city of millions, first for one half of the city and then for the other. The spread of the virus is to be stopped by mass tests. Tesla emphasized that it was fully cooperating with the authorities.
The factory in China is particularly important for the manufacturer. China is the world’s largest car market, and cars are also built there for export. China is known for its restrictive corona policy, as is Tesla boss Elon Musk for his criticism of the lockdowns.
