Samsung revolutionizes mobile storage with its UFS 4.0 drives

Samsung Electronics has been revolutionizing the digital data storage segment in recent weeks with its continuous launches, and today we find the presentation, via Twitter, of its new high-performance and energy-efficient storage solution.

The company has presented the next generation flash storage units, the new UFS 4.0, which sooner or later we will see them appear in smart mobile devices and other electronic devices.

Improved speeds, energy efficiency and compact size

Samsung say what UFS 4.0 drives offer a speed of up to 23.2 Gbps per lane, double that of the previous UFS 3.1, that reach maximum speeds of 11.6 GBps, being perfect for 5G mobiles that require large amounts of data processing, also improving processing in automotive, AR and VR applications.

These UFS 4.0 units are made up of 7th generation V-NAND memories from Samsung and a proprietary driver to be able to offer a Up to 4200MB/s sequential read speed and up to 2800MB/s sequential write speed, as they expose.

And in addition to improving speeds, energy efficiency is also improved, for which it has also shared data in this regard. They say that UFS 4.0 drives will offer a sequential read speed of 6.0 MB/s per mA, a practical improvement of 46% over the previous generation.

This, for the end user, translates into an optimized energy consumption of the battery in the mobile devices where they are going to be implemented, achieving a longer duration of their autonomy.

And finally, also take up less space on devices mobileswith maximum measurements of 11 mm x 13 mm x 1 mm, coming in different capacities up to a maximum of 1TB.

In fact, we can already get used to talking about superior capabilities of mobile devices thanks to this launch.

Mass production will start in the third quarter of the yearso it is possible that we will be able to see it in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, or more possible in the Galaxy S23.

It will be a matter of these units reaching the market so that we can see them integrated into mobile phones that the different companies will launch in the future.
