Extreme beast! The Brabus 900 Crawler is a kind of 900 hp Mercedes G-Class buggy to fly over the dunes

At this point there is no need to present Brabus, supplier of follies on wheels based on Mercedes. After several decades creating some of the most brutal, luxurious and powerful Mercedes, Brabus has done it again. Moreover, it can be said that it has been overcome, since it has just presented the Brabus 900 Crawler.

It can be said that the Brabus Crawler 900 is a 900 horse buggys made on its own chassis and that has preserved the front of what was once a Mercedes G-Class. And it is that of Mercedes G-Class, the Crawler has rather little left, beyond an aesthetic resemblance and the V8 motorcycle which serves as a base for Brabus.

And it is that Brabus has decided to create its own tubular chassis for this model. Not even part of the base of the G-Class frame rails and crossmembers, Brabus ensures that it is its own chassis. Incidentally, he also created his own bodywork. A very open body without doors.

The flared fins are somewhat reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz G 500 4×4² and only the front and rear lights maintain the idea that the base is a Mercedes G. And all of this is made in carbon fiber. Obviously, it lacks doors or side and rear windows. Because it doesn’t have, it doesn’t even have a windshield.

As for the powertrain, suffice it to say that the Crawler features portal axles and 40-inch diameter tires. Equipped with height-adjustable shock absorbers and 20-inch BRABUS Monoblock HD forged wheels. In the end, you have a ground clearance of 53 cm. Come on, it should be unstoppable.

And what about the power? After all, it is a Brabus… As its name suggests, it puts 900 CV at the disposal of its driver’s right foot. There is nothing.

The engine is a Bottrop-prepared version of AMG’s well-known 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, except here it goes up to 4.4 liters of displacement and is equipped with internal Brabus components (forged crankshaft, pistons and connecting rodsamong others) as well as new Brabus turbos and two gasoline pumps with greater capacity and power.

The result is a storm of 900 CV a 6.000 rpm And till 1.250 Nm a 2.900 rpm of torque. In practice, however, torque is electronically limited to 1,050 Nm. Engine torque is limited to preserve the integrity of the 9-speed Mercedes automatic gearbox that it equips. The Brabus Crawler also maintains the original all-wheel drive with its three lockable differentials.

At 2,065kg, the Crawler is substantially lighter than an AMG G 63, and Brabus advertises a 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. It should be noted that the maximum speed is electronically limited to 160 km / h, due to off-road tires.

On board, the steering wheel and some other interior components, although modified, are clearly inherited from the G-Class. But there is not much else. Instead, there are four carbon-fiber bucket seats upholstered in quilted leather in an otherwise spartan interior.

Even so, it has red anodized elements, such as the pedals, the footrests and the aluminum mounts for the GPS unit. For communication between the different members of the crew, the BRABUS Crawler has a two-way communication system, which can be used with the specific intercoms integrated in the four BRABUS carbon hulls included with the car.

To no one’s surprise, the Brabus Crawler is not approved for use on public roads. His home and much of his clientele is in the desert, so it shouldn’t be a problem. In fact, Brabus will only make 15 copies of the Crawler until 2024, with a price of 749,000 euros more taxation.
