As the iOS 16 announcement approaches, iOS 15 adoption is approaching 90%. Good news for Apple as the current version of its operating system has taken its time before being adopted by users.
WWDC 2022, which will be held from Monday, June 6 at 7:00 p.m., promises to focus on software updates. On this occasion, the Cupertino company should lift the veil on the new features of iOS 16. The table version will be deployed in the fall of 2022, which still leaves time for iOS 15 to take place on the iPhone. According to the estimates of Mixpanelthe fifteenth major version of the mobile operating system would now be present on 90% of iPhones ; more than 250 days after its launch and almost a year after its presentation at WWDC 2021.
Le adoption rate of iOS 15 would be more exactly 88.9% ; an increase of nearly 10% compared to the last estimate dating back 10 weeks. Note that this is not an official figure and that it may have some differences with the one communicated by Apple. Mixpanal’s method is based on visits to sites and apps using its mobile analytics SDKs. A technique that generally presents more optimistic figures than those of Cupertino.
iOS 15 took its time
In January 2022, Apple updated iOS 15 adoption figures to show that 72% of iPhones released in the past four years were running the latest version. A result for this version which did not seduce as quickly as iOS 14. Several reasons can explain this lack of interest, starting with a limited number of novelties. This version does not offer any major upheaval compared to iOS 14, preferring to play the continuity card. In addition, bugs have disrupted the beginnings of this version.
Apple has not necessarily pushed its users to migrate to the new OS either; even continuing to propose security updates for devices running iOS 14.
We are now waiting to discover the new features of iOS and iPadOS 16. These two new versions will accompany macOS 13, watchOS 9 and tvOS 16 next week, during WWDC 2022.
