E3 will finally return to face-to-face

After two canceled editions, E3 is not yet buried, and will sign its big comeback in person.

The news fell a few months ago: E3 2022 won’t take place this year after all. After a 2021 edition marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, this year should have marked the return of the show dedicated to video games, for the moment remotely. Things could not materialize in the end, the publishers will have to compose without the Entertainment Software Association this year. However, this new disappointment does not signify the death of the festival.

ESA announces the return of E3 in 2023

In an interview with the Washington Post, Stan Pierre-Louis, CEO and President of ESA indicated that the most important show of the year would return in 2023, for a hybrid edition. A way for fans around the world to come together safely, while ensuring a physical meeting that will allow “connect in person“.

Despite its return, the E3 will still have to succeed in imposing itself on a market which has learned to live without it for more than two years. From 2019, Sony had canceled its participation in the show, to focus on online conferences organized under its own banner. A habit already adopted by Nintendo or Apple for years, allowing brands to manage their own news.

Despite everything, the E3 remains a reference figure in the video game market. By announcing its hybrid return in 2023, the ESA can still save the furniture and put its event back in the spotlight. Good news for independent studios, for whom the show is an unprecedented international showcase. It is notably thanks to E3 that the titles Stardew Valley or Undertale received international acclaim when they were released.
