after many months of tense waitingarduous negotiations to obtain the best candidacy and certain agony for their workersit’s official: the Ford factory in Almussafes (Valencia) will remain alive the next few years thanks to the manufacture of two new electric models of the brand.
After the company awarded these models to the Valencian plant, it is now its main rival in that it is in a difficult situation: the Saarlorius factory (Germany), which currently produces the Ford Focus -and it has a somewhat lower production capacity than Almussafes-, could be doomed to its decommissioning from 2025.
At the moment, the president of Ford Europe, Stuart Rowley, has declared that the choice of a factory for this production “does not imply the decision to close the other” factory, but it does point to the “necessary restructuring of templates”.
A true oxygen balloon for Almussafes
When Rowley communicated the long-awaited news for Almussafes, he said that Ford is “accelerating transformation in Europereinventing the way they do business and building a future where amazing vehicles and customer experience go hand in hand with protecting our planet.”
To date, Ford had only confirmed the manufacture of seven electric models at its factories in Cologne (Germany) and Craiova (Romania). Now the Spanish plant is added to the list, and although it has not been announced what the two new cars will be in this case, it is known that They will have the GE2 architecture.

The President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig, gave a press conference to communicate the good news, in which he emphasized that Ford’s commitment to Almussafes “guarantees the momentum of an essential industry for the Valencian economy“.
Ford’s commitment to Valencia is thus added to that of Volkswagen, which last February chose the town of Sagunto for its battery factory, unseating the proposals of Extremadura, Catalonia and Aragon.
Since the Ford Mondeo left the Almussafes assembly lines at the end of last March, the Valencian plant is currently producing the Ford Kuga, los S-Max y Galaxy, la Ford Transit y el Ford Tourneo Connect. Models that will decrease in the next three years.
And it is that in addition to the fact that Ford has already announced on several occasions that will only produce electric cars in Europe in 2030we must take into account that the Kuga represents more than 50% of the activity of the Spanish factory, and the vans will only remain on the assembly lines until the beginning of 2024.
For that date, they will be assembled in the Mexican factory in Hermosillo, and sold in the American market. The two relatives are also not expected to arrive much beyond 2025. Galaxy y S-Max on the assembly line.

Adaptation of the facilities through, thanks to the adjudication of these new models, the Valencian plant will be able to catch some fresh air, as it is estimated that its activity may be extended 15 years more minimum.
Of course, last May the management of Ford already announced what is now confirmed: that whatever the final decision on the production of its future electric cars, both in its factories in Valencia and in Germany they would have to “resize” the current structure of your template.
Regarding this last point, it is expected that there will be more news soon.
