Ayuso wants the Spanish F1 GP to be in Madrid with a Jarama reform and has sent a letter for it

The location of the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix could once again be in dispute. The Community of Madrid, with Isabel Díaz Ayuso at the head, has formally announced its intention to organize the Spanish Formula 1 race in the coming years. It would be a personal project of the president.

The plan of the Madrid government would be to organize the race at the Jarama circuit, although carrying out a previous reform that would adapt the facilities to the minimum acceptable requirements for Formula 1. It is not the only option. And there have already been some moves to understand Liberty Media’s interest in this race.

Ayuso would have already sent a letter to Domenicalli

The Community of Madrid ya sent a card to Stefano Domenicalli, the CEO of Formula 1, to find out what the organization of the great circus thinks about the possibility of seeing a Grand Prix in Madrid in the coming years. Although, at the moment, the answer is unknown. The person who signs the document is Enrique López López.

Let us remember that the Spanish Grand Prix has a contract for continue in Barcelona-Catalonia until the 2026 season, so the Madrid project, if approved, would be long-term. There is still nothing approved regarding the works on the circuit, pending the idea of Formula 1.

It will be another difficult point, since the residents of Jarama have been putting obstacles for years to the operation of the circuit, so the Community would also have to solve that problem. In any case, it is unlikely that Madrid will enter Formula 1 before 2027, since there will not be two races in the same country.

Madrid would like to opt for a route similar to that of Zandvoortthat of reforming an old circuit so that it reaches the minimum of Formula 1. The p was shuffledPossibility of choosing the way to Miami or Vegas, with an urban circuit, but at the moment it is not the main option. If there is Formula 1 in Madrid, it will be at Jarama.

Ayuso would like to take advantage of the second boom that Formula 1 is experiencing in Spain with Carlos Sainz fighting for victories and Fernando Alonso still fighting with his Alpine. But, for now, without embarking on urban adventures as Valencia did in its day, and how badly it turned out at all levels.

Before the pandemic there was already very serious negotiations between Liberty Media and the Jerez circuit so that the Spanish Grand Prix moved to Andalusia, but was cut short due to the health crisis. Since then, Montmeló has been barely renewing, with obvious organizational problems. We’ll see if it takes their toll.
