The Polestar 5 will take its 884 hp out for a walk at Goodwood, and it will be the first warning for the Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Polestar 5 is a “high-performance 4-door electric GT with sports car credentials,” they say at Polestar. It is also the production model derived from the concept car Precept first shown in 2020.

As such, it will hit the market with a coupé silhouette and a long wheelbase that will position it as a rival to the Mercedes-Benz EQSof Audi e-tron GT and the Porsche Taycan.

At the design level, only the typical elements of a concept car, such as the ultra-thin camera mirrors, the rear doors with inverted opening and the oversized wheels, will not be on the production model.

Development of the Polestar 5 propulsion system is not yet complete, but olestar has confirmed that its goal is to achieve a power of 884 CV (650 kW) y 900 Nm of torque. Figures close to those of the Porche Taycan Turbo S, which has up to 762 hp (560 kW) and 1,050 Nm of torque.

Polestar explains that the rear axle will be the more powerful of the two, thus hinting that it would behave closer to that of a rear-wheel drive than an all-wheel drive. The new platform of the Polestar 5 has been developed in the brand’s engineering studio located in the heart of the UK’s Motorsport Valley.

There, a team of 280 people, made up of engineers coming from Formula 1 and prestigious sports car brands, have shaped a platform of bonded aluminum, an essential factor if it wants to offer “a driving experience as desirable as the design”, they explain from Polestar.

The Polestar 5 is still in an early stage of development and its presentation is planned for 2024. It will be the third of three new electric cars that Polestar will launch on the market in the next three years, after the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 SUVs.
